Top 10 Mistakes in Online Business

Every week I talk with entrepreneurs. We talk about what’s working and what isn’t. We talk about successes and failures. I spend time with both complete newbies and seasoned veterans, and everything in between.
I have a pretty fantastic job.
One topic that comes up over and over again with both groups is mistakes made in starting businesses.
Newbies love to know which mistakes are common so they can avoid them. Veterans love to talk about things they wish they had known or had done differently.
This weekend I was at the World Domination Summit in Portland with 3,000 ambitious people, and this topic came up dozens of times. “What do you wish you had done differently?” “What mistakes do people make starting out?” “I wish I hadn’t…”
So I put together a summary of the mistakes people shared with me, combined with the mistakes we see being made every week through our work with new entrepreneurs at Fizzle and elsewhere.

Ecommerce trends to watch 2016 [Infographic]

These trends will shape the ecommerce industry this year

Ecommerce business is on the rise, as online shopping is predicted to increase by 45% in 2016 in the U.S - see the latest ecommerce growth statistics. To stay ahead of the game or to grow your online business, you need to benchmark against the latest growth rates, both for overall business in a category for specific devices and then implement marketing strategies and tactics that work to achieve business goals.
For example, year-on-year e-retail sales continue to grow with online sales up to 10% in January 2016 according to the United States Custora Pulse Ecommerce benchmark. So your online trading volumes could be 5% up YoY, but you are actually going backwards compared to the competition.
We thought this infographic was a nice summary list of the top trends that will enable any e-Commerce business to grow in 2016 and beyond. Beacons, big data & predictive analysis, advanced personalization, omnichannel tactics, localization, digital tech taking over the brick and mortar stores, and an increased focus on customer experience are some of the most important trends to watch in 2016.

Web Master Guidelines

Following the General Guidelines below will help Google find, index, and rank your site.

We strongly encourage you to pay very close attention to the Quality Guidelines below, which outline some of the illicit practices that may lead to a site being removed entirely from the Google index or otherwise affected by an algorithmic or manual spam action. If a site has been affected by a spam action, it may no longer show up in results on Google.com or on any of Google's partner sites.

    Quality guidelines

These quality guidelines cover the most common forms of deceptive or manipulative behavior, but Google may respond negatively to other misleading practices not listed here. It's not safe to assume that just because a specific deceptive technique isn't included on this page, Google approves of it. Webmasters who spend their energies upholding the spirit of the basic principles will provide a much better user experience and subsequently enjoy better ranking than those who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit.
If you believe that another site is abusing Google's quality guidelines, please let us know by filing a spam report. Google prefers developing scalable and automated solutions to problems, so we attempt to minimize hand-to-hand spam fighting. While we may not take manual action in response to every report, spam reports are prioritized based on user impact, and in some cases may lead to complete removal of a spammy site from Google's search results. Not all manual actions result in removal, however. Even in cases where we take action on a reported site, the effects of these actions may not be obvious.

    Basic principles

    • Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines.
    • Don't deceive your users.
    • Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you, or to a Google employee. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
    • Think about what makes your website unique, valuable, or engaging. Make your website stand out from others in your field.

    Specific guidelines

    Avoid the following techniques:
    Follow good practices like these:
    • Monitoring your site for hacking and removing hacked content as soon as it appears
    • Preventing and removing user-generated spam on your site
If your site violates one or more of these guidelines, then Google may take manual action against it. Once you have remedied the problem, you can submit your site for reconsideration.

    iBusiness Promoter IBP 11 Business

    Pros
iBusiness Promoter has competitive analysis integrated into its analysis tools, so that you can use this information every step of the way.
    Cons
iBusiness Promoter limits the amount of projects you can have going at one time.
    The Verdict:
     6.95/10
iBusiness Promoter can help you launch your company's SEO program and develop SEO strategies that work for your business. Its tools are not as in-depth as some of the other software packages we reviewed, but is a good option for small business.

iBusiness Promoter provides useful tools for building your SEO program. It has a full set of keyword optimization tools and link building tools. It also helps you analyze your competition's links and websites. It does have its drawbacks, including the fact that it limits the number of projects you can have at one time to five. Most of the other top SEO software packages we reviewed allow you to conduct an unlimited number of projects at one time.
Choosing the right keywords for your website is crucial when you are trying to make sure your site will move to the top of the result page on popular search engines. iBusiness Promoter will provide keyword suggestions when you enter a keyword you are interested in into the search bar. It also gives you information on the number of searches for that keyword, the number of Google search results and the keyword's effectiveness. This is important because it helps you pinpoint which keywords will be most beneficial to your campaign and lets you see which keywords are already ranking high in search engines.
Link building features from iBusiness Promoter include a list of links from websites and blogs that are related to your site. iBusiness Promoter provides you with an email submission form so that when you find links you want to connect to, you can quickly submit a request to them and form these relationships. These tools save you valuable time by connecting to link partners and tracking your link submissions for you, which are key benefits of choosing to use an SEO tracking software.
Competitor analysis tools are seamlessly integrated into the rest of this SEO tracking software's tools. When you analyze your links or your keywords, iBusiness Promoter will provide you with your competitor's information as well as your own information so that you can keep this data in mind when you develop your SEO program.
iBusiness Promoter does not allow you to customize your reports or export them in different formats. This is a drawback because when your SEO program is generating data, you should be able to use and share it with others. This limits the ways you can analyze your data and does not allow you to make the most of your results.
Missing from iBusiness Promoter's help and support options are both a phone number to reach customer service agents and a live chat feature. This makes it very difficult to get help if something goes wrong or if you have questions about operating the software. The company does provide an email address to reach them, so if you have questions you can send them in.
